A city of domes

Bijapur’s builders worked out a structural vocabulary of their own — intersecting-arch supports, bracketed cornices, domes on lotus-petal drums — that is recognisably neither Mughal nor Persian. The Gol Gumbaz is the extreme case, not the only one.
