Srirangapatna

سری رنگا پٹنم

An island fortress on the Kaveri — Mysore’s capital, and the place where the Anglo-Mysore wars ended.

The island

The fort sits on an island in the Kaveri, which is what made it defensible and, in the end, what made the siege of 1799 finite. Tipu’s summer palace, the Daria Daulat Bagh, survives with its painted murals — including a mural of Pollilur, the Company’s defeat, painted on his own wall.

The Gumbaz nearby holds the tombs of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan.
