Rohilkhand — the Rohilla Chiefs
1721 marks Ali Mohammed Khan's establishment of an independent Rohilla principality, seated first at Aonla; Bareilly later became the state's capital. 1774 marks Rohilla chief Hafiz Rahmat Khan's death at the Battle of Miranpur Katra, ending Rohilla sovereignty in the First Rohilla War. Imperial Gazetteer (2026-09-22): The Gazetteer dates Ali Muhammad's Mughal grant of most of Rohilkhand to 1719, not 1721, but its account of the Rohilla War confirms 1774 as the year British-backed Oudh forces ended independent Rohilla rule, matching the row's end date.
