Samarkand at Bidar

The madrasa is the clearest single piece of evidence for the Deccan’s direct line to Central Asia. Its plan, its scale and its tilework belong to the Timurid tradition rather than to anything developing locally.

Part of the structure was destroyed by a powder explosion in the seventeenth century. What survives still carries substantial areas of its original glazed tile.
