Junagadh — the Babi Nawabs
1730 marks Mohammad Bahadur Khanji I's declaration of independence from the Mughal governor of Gujarat subah and founding of Junagadh state. 1948 marks the state's integration into the Indian Union following a plebiscite after the 1947 partition dispute. Imperial Gazetteer (2026-09-22): The Gazetteer's date marks Sher Khan Babi's seizure of Junagarh from the Mughal governor (about 1735) and the state's first formal engagement with the British Government in 1807, not the 1948 accession to India.
