Chosen from two brothers
Mirza Khan “sent off Meer Tahir Nyshapoory to bring the two sons of the King’s paternal uncle, Boorhan Nizam Shah, from the fort of Lohgur, that he might choose one of them to place on the throne”, and “declared to them the deposal of Meeran Hoossein, and the accession of Ismael Nizam Shah (the younger brother), then only in his twelfth year.” Jamal Khan’s rising at the gates ended with the minister’s foreigners massacred and Ismail kept on as Jamal Khan’s king instead.
When Jamal Khan “was killed by a chance shot” fighting Ismail’s own father, the boy “was afterwards confined by his father, and deprived of his throne, after a reign of two years.”
