He had fled Golconda during his brother Jamsheed’s reign and taken refuge with Ramraj at Vijayanagara. On Jamsheed’s death he set up his pretensions to the throne with Vijayanagara’s assistance, was supported from inside by Jugdew Row, and arrived at the capital; the child on the throne was deposed.
Sherwani’s reading is that Sultan Quli never proclaimed kingship and that Ibrahim was in all probability the first Golconda ruler to do so — which would make this reign, not the foundation, the moment the dynasty became a monarchy in its own eyes. His tomb was among the tallest structures in the region until the Charminar was built.
