Fought off a palace coup that had briefly installed his younger brother Hasan Khan, deposed and blinded him, and took the throne himself in 1458; died in 1461, whether of illness or (per a second account Ferishta records) assassinated by servants worn out by his cruelty.

Hoomayoon opposed this attack with resolution, obliging the insurgents to retire... he entered the grand hall of audience without opposition, and seized his brother, who sat panic-struck and trembling upon the throne. Hoomayoon instantly ascending it in his stead, was acknowledged King without further opposition.
