Carnatic — the Nawabs of Arcot
1692 marks Aurangzeb's appointment of Zulfiqar Khan as the first subahdar of the Carnatic seated at Arcot, the office that became the hereditary Nawabi line. 1855 marks the death of the last Nawab, Ghulam Muhammad Ghouse Khan, without a male heir, after which the British annexed the Nawabdom.

In 1781 the Nawab had assigned the revenues of the Carnatic to the Company, and North Arcot thus passed under their management. In 1801 it was, with the rest of the Carnatic, ceded in full sovereignty by the Nawab Azim-ud-daula.
