The dastango conjuring whole worlds with only voice, the mushaira's wah-wah, the talab — the audience demanding a couplet again, claiming it as theirs.

Nothing is preserved because nothing was meant to be. A tale is built live, sized to the room, stretched or cut according to what comes back from the listeners, and the audience's cry of approval is part of the composition rather than a response to it. What survives on the page is a script for something that has already gone.
